Prantic Unnayan Society (PRANTIC) has been attempting to study a feasibility of chicken rearing at household level for the relocated Rohingya families in Bhasan Char since April 2022. Two bamboo cages are made locally having three rooms of about 10 CFT and accommodated 08 chickens (one male and 7 hen) in each room and a total of 48 chickens in 6 rooms of 2 bamboo cages in the
Livelihood Research and Training Center established in Plot GP-3 and GP-4 in Bhasan Char.
The objective of this study is to find out the suitability of chicken rearing at home, what are the major problems? challenges? easy solutions to overcome the problems and above all to find cost effectivity of chicken rearing in Bhasan Char. So far, two chickens died this week due to cold.
We are now getting eggs.
We are now getting eggs. We hope these hens will continue laying for 18 months. We would be then able to calculate the cost effectiveness of chicken rearing in Bhasan Char. OBAT Helpers Inc. USA is continuing funding for this project in Bhasan Char.
